Sail Repair
Here are some photos of the repair I did to a damaged seam in the mainsail.

The damaged seam.

After failing to find a local supplier of a sutable awl, I came up with a home-brew one using a pin vice and a sewing machine needle.

The repaired seam. The two zig-zag runs of waxed thread start at the right and go through the original stitch holes. On each run, the first stitch was made on the inner row of holes so that the loop of thread that would be formed passed through two layers of cloth. The final stitch goes through the thicker side seam at the left to reduce any chance of the knots on the other side pulling through.

The reverse side of the repair - the threads are knotted at the right (individually and then both runs are knotted together, all with half hitches) and the loose ends are led back under some of the new stitches.
